Bernard “Bernie” Wolfson age 81 of Coconut Grove passed away on May 5. Beloved husband of Jessie Fox Wolfson. Loving father of Howard (Pamela) Wolfson, Helena (Matt Fulgham); cherished grandfather of Abeni, Jacob, Asher and Sophia; dear brother of Norma Berenfeld, Marilyn Stoler, Jessica Wolfson, Anita Wolfson (Glen Osen); brother-in-law of Victor Fox and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Bernie, born on February 13, 1937, in Brooklyn, NY attended the University of Florida, a brother in AEPi, then graduated law school from the Univ. of Miami. Bernie utilized his law degree with his real estate and business acumen, learned from his father, to become a successful real-estate developer of a range of properties including office buildings, shopping centers and a passion for hotels. He was the General Partner of Hospitality Operations, Inc. developing, building and operating many hotels under the Hilton brand in South Florida since 1994. He held a position on the Hampton Owners Advisory Council for a decade. His most recent success is the award winning Brickell Hampton Inn & Suites. Bernie enjoyed all aspects of designing and planning this hotel which earned the Green Building Certification. He personally selected world class art including the work of the renowned artist Henry Whitaker. A committed patron of all the arts with a particular love for theater, he supported theaters in South Florida and Western Massachusetts where he resided half the year. The Wolfson Center of Barrington Stage Company is one of his proudest philanthropic endowments. His devotion to Judaism and support of Jewish culture and community will always be a part of his legacy. Bernard will be remembered for his generosity, passion, intelligence, boyish spirit, wit and his dedication and love for his family. He will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will take place Tuesday, May 8, at 10:00 am at Temple Judea, 5500 Granada Blvd, Coral Gables. Burial to follow at Lakeside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greater Miami Jewish Federation or Temple Judea.
