Bernice Lanken Cahan, age 92, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2015 at the Miami Jewish Home. Bernice, lovingly known as “MomMom,” was originally from Philadelphia and lived most of her life “down the shore” in Margate and Atlantic City. She was predeceased by her mother, Anna Lanken, her father, Samuel Lanken, and her beloved daughter, Susan Cahan Ferguson. While living in Atlantic City, Bernice served as President of the Women's Auxiliary of the New Jersey Dental Society and was active with the Betty Bacharach Home and Beth Judah Sisterhood. MomMom's fondest memories were of summers spent on the Atlantic City Boardwalk and beaches with her beloved parents, children and dear life-long friends.
After moving to Miami, Bernice became an active member of the Douglas Gardens Family and loved by all. She was elected to serve as President of the Residents' Council for three terms and spoke eloquently on many occasions representing the Jewish Home. MomMom is survived by her two great grandchildren, Vivian Goldstein and Ross Samuel Bergstein. She is also survived by her five loving granddaughters, Alisa Cahan Bergstein and husband, Adam, Hallie Cahan, Sandra Walter, Stacey Walter, Ann Walter Goldstein and husband David Goldstein. She is also survived by her loving sons Michael Cahan and wife, Shelly, and Richard Cahan and his wife, Linda, and son-in-law Stan Ferguson, and her fury pal Charlie. Nothing made MomMom happier than being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her strength, her beauty, and her pride in the three generations she created and loved.
