April 23, 1939 – March 14, 2025
Donald “Don” Myron Gerson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025 in Miami, Florida. Born on April 23, 1939, in Baltimore, Maryland, Don led a remarkable life full of love, adventure, and dedication to his family and profession.
Don spent his early years in Baltimore before his family relocated to Miami Beach, Florida, where he grew up surrounded by warmth and opportunity. He attended the University of Florida, where he discovered his passion for accounting, a field in which he would build a distinguished career. Don was a proud Gator and took immense joy in knowing that two of his grandchildren, Alec Rosenberg and Sophie Underwood, are currently attending UF. He was especially delighted that Alec chose to follow in his footsteps by studying accounting at UF’s Gerson Hall, named after Don’s brother, Gary Gerson.
Don proudly served in the United States Air Force and was stationed during the Cuban Missile Crisis, a time of intense tension and historical significance. His service was a source of pride, reflecting his deep sense of duty and commitment to his country.
Don’s professional legacy was cemented as an early partner in what was then known as Gerson, Preston & Company. Over the years, the firm grew into what is now Gerson, Preston, Klein, Lips, Eisenberg & Gelber, an esteemed accounting firm in Miami Beach. Don dedicated decades of service to the firm, providing expertise and guidance to his clients. His work ethic and integrity earned him great respect in the industry, and he was honored as a lifetime member of the Florida Institute of Accounting.
Beyond his career, Don was a devoted family man. He was predeceased by his parents, Annette and Harry Gerson, as well as his brother, Sheldon Gerson. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandy Gerson of Flat Rock, NC; his children, Mindy Gerson (Mel Underwood) of Miami, Dana Gerson Rosenberg (Mike) of Atlanta, and Hal Gerson of Coral Gables; his brother, Gary Gerson (Niety) of Miami Beach; and his cherished grandchildren, Jordyn, Alec, and Remy Rosenberg of Atlanta; Eli and Sophie Underwood of Miami; and Jace Gerson of Miami. He is also survived by his two stepsons, step granddaughters and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Don had a passion for travel and a deep love of adventure, especially cruising across the world’s oceans. He was a man of strong faith, proud of his Jewish heritage, and found great joy in celebrating traditions with his family.
In addition to his professional and family achievements, Don was known for his love of shopping—especially for shoes. Mondays were sacred, not for business, but for his weekly trip to T.J. Maxx, where he could always find a good deal. He had a sharp eye for a bargain, a collection of watches and sunglasses to prove it, and a deep appreciation for fine jewelry. He always dressed impeccably with his own unique style.
Known for his wisdom, humor, and generosity, Don left an indelible mark on those who knew him. His legacy of love, hard work, and dedication will continue to inspire his family for generations to come.
A private family service to honor Don’s life will be held at Lakeside Cemetery in Miami, Florida on March 17, 2025.
May his memory be a blessing.
