Today, Friday, August 21 our family will be gathering for the unveiling of my dear Momma Emily Green's headstone at Riverside Gordon at her burial location,  graveside at 3PM.

I would invite any and all of her friends to join in the "celebration of her life" as we memorialize my dear mom where she has been laid to rest.  "God bless you mom, you are so deeply missed.  "With all my love,  as eternally memorialized on your headstone marker!  "I love you more"!  Always your son Bill

I am at a loss of words. Emily was a real star, larger than life personality, a heart and soul of gold. Emily was there for me with my own mothers sudden passing in 2004 and my mother in law Laura's passing a little over a year ago. Emily and Laura had a life long friendship that is rare. Emily extended that friendship to me which I will forever be grateful for. I am so sorry for your loss Billy. Emily will be truly missed! I know Emily and Laura are together again watching over us. I couldn't bear to write this and share my mom's Memorial page until now as my mom's passing was so unexpected and sudden back in October.   I came to visit her in Miami on October 7, 2013 not to plan her funeral, but to assist in her in her move from the hospital where she was for a month suffering from a variety of chronic illnesses and was to be moved into rehabilitation and perhaps assisted living.  On October 8th, my mother, weak and frail from her illness simply gave up the will to live as she once shared that if she could not live independently; she did not want to live at all.  It was on that day that my mother began her journey into the afterlife as she wanted to be with her mother and family in heaven and simply gave up the will to live.

To all of those who knew my mother Emily Green, she was full of life, passion for all she endured and she was very dear to me.  She loved me as a loving and dear mother would always love their child. My dear momma Emily will live on in my heart forever as she was always there for me and with her very “big personality”.  She knew no stranger as she befriended all who she came in contact with throughout her life. 

I have shared with those who knew my mom personally that her passing and our loss can only be described as "the silence is deafening" as my mother had a large personality, she was extremely verbal, had an intensity and passion for life, she loved people, she adored children, she loved her craft of hair styling and she was extremely gregarious in all that she pursued in life.   

I wanted to take the time now to share via this webpage at Dignity Memorial a bit about my mom's life for all who knew her,  and ask you share your thoughts no matter how brief as a tribute to my dear belated mom  Emily Michaels Green.

My mom was born May 10, 1931 and raised in Ioannina Greece http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ioannina .   

At the young age of 5, my grandmother Rene Matza Michaels was told by her husband Raymond who had already migrated to the United States to leave Greece and come to the US as Nazi Germany was planning to invade the town of Ioannina, Greece—my mother's birthplace.  My grandmother took my mother and fled Greece travelling by ship for America as immigrants leaving behind their home, entire family and their children.  My Grandmother Rene Matza Michaels had 16 brothers, sisters and their families who were all annihilated in the holocaust by Nazi Germany under Hitler's dictatorship during the war shortly after my mother and grandmother left Greece.  

This began my mother's life as a very strong soul and a survivor who was also very creative.  She grew up in New York City and met my father, Calvin Green at a young age of 18 and she married.  She had two children, I, William Green and my brother Randy Green.

Her strength and creative interests and talent in the arts took her on a path to become a fashion sketch artist after practicing and learning the arts at New York School of Industrial Arts and later became a very successful hair stylist as she practiced cosmetology for 45 years.  She was so proud of her craft and always learned new techniques in the world of cosmetology and hair styling.  Somewhere on her journey as a Hair Stylist she acquired the nick-name, the “Scissor Wizard”.

My mom was a great cook in her younger days when she was physically able, and her specialty was Jewish and Greek cuisine, everyone loved my momma Emily's cooking.  If my mother had a brisket in the oven or a pot of Matzo Ball Chicken Soup on the stove, the entire family and neighborhood knew it.  I have great memories of my mom and some very difficult ones as she was very ill the past several years and was in and out of hospitals, rehabilitation and suffered from so many chronic illnesses just to maintain some quality of life.

I want to thank all of the physicians, nurses, rehabilitative specialists, and her caretaker Rosie Albury who took care of my mother at one time or another in her last years –it's because of you that my dear mom was able to survive as long as she did.

And I want to thank each and every friend of mine who my mother considered her adopted children for being there for me through this difficult time. Thank you for your cards, calls, texts and donations to the American Heart Association.  Shortly after my mother's passing, I walked in the Tampa Bay “Heart Walk” as a Tribute to my dear mom, and it's because of so many of you that I was named “Top Walker” at HSN having raised more than any other walker on our team.  It was all for you mom….

I deeply miss my mom, she was my biggest fan and best friend, she will live in my heart forever as I will miss her greatly for the rest of my life.  God bless you mom as I am sure you are dancing on the clouds…
