Gerald Bodner, beloved husband, father, grandfather, attorney, and proud New Yorker, passed away at home in Miami, Florida, on February 26, 2026. He was 82. Born on May 19, 1943, Gerry lived a life defined by intellectual curiosity, devotion to justice, and deep love for his family.
Soft-spoken yet determined, Gerry built a distinguished career in labor law. A scholarship student at Cornell University and a graduate of NYU School of Law, he served as labor counsel for a maritime firm and later at NYU before spending more than twenty-five years as Labor Counsel at Yeshiva University. Among his proudest professional achievements was his role in the landmark Yeshiva University case before the United States Supreme Court. Despite his accomplishments, he never allowed his career to define him, caring more championing justice and focusing on family.
Gerry briefly taught in a largely Spanish-speaking classroom in the Bronx during the Vietnam era, where he met his wife. He later volunteered to travel to Israel during the Six-Day War, reflecting his deep commitment to the Jewish people and to Israel.
An avid reader and lifelong learner, Gerry approached the world with curiosity and enthusiasm. He loved to travel, meticulously preparing for each trip and delighting in conversation with new people wherever he went. He walked the streets of Manhattan for miles each day and seemed to know New York City intimately. He was a gifted storyteller who relished spirited discussions about history, law, and life.
Though an only child, Gerry was deeply devoted to his extended family and maintained close relationships with cousins and lifelong friends. Above all, he was devoted to his family and adored by his wife, son, and grandsons, who will remember him as the best and most loving father and grandfather in the world.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Elva Collazo; his son, Gabriel (Liz); and his cherished grandsons, Jackson, 13, and Remington, 9.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 pm on March 8, 2026, at Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapels at Mount Nebo (Kendall), 5900 SW 77th Ave, Miami, FL 33143, US.
