Gerald (Jerry) D. Kelfer, an accomplished lawyer and executive, loving husband, and cherished grandfather, passed away in Miami, Florida on November 8, 2024 at the age of 79. Jerry is survived by his wife of 45 years, Janet; his son and daughter-in-law Jonathan and Laura; his son-in-law Erick, now married to Gina; his grandchildren Daniel and Emma; and his siblings Deborah, Howard, and Mimi. Jerry is predeceased by his parents Albert and Paula; and his daughter Samantha.

Jerry was born in Swampscott, Massachusetts. He graduated with his law degree from Boston University in 1969. He and Janet married in 1979 in New York City, moving to Chappaqua, New York to start their family. Jerry was a devoted father to Jonathan, born 1982, and Samantha, born 1985. In 1998, the family relocated to Miami.

Jerry had an extensive career in real estate and law, most recently serving as the Chief Executive Officer, President, and Chairman of the Executive Committee of Avatar Holdings from 1996 to 2010. Jerry was formerly a principal in Odyssey Partners, L.P., from July 1994 to February 1997; and Executive Vice President, Senior General Counsel and Director of Olympia and York Companies from 1985 to 1994. Prior to this he was a Partner at Roberts and Holland.

Jerry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was well-known and respected in international tax law and real estate professional circles. In retirement, he was an avid collector, skilled street photographer, and classical music aficionado. Jerry will be deeply missed by his family, friends, associates, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Services for Jerry will be held at Riverside Gordon Mount Nebo, Kendall Memorial Gardens on November 12th, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. Contributions can be made to Temple Beth Am in Pinecrest, Florida.
