Gilbert was born on June 10th, 1932 in Bronx, NY to Jacob & Celia “Tillie” Sens. He served in the military throughout the Korean War. Shortly after, he met the love of his life, Audrey Sens, and together they had four children, two daughters & two sons.
Gilbert was a brilliant businessman, building a number of notable condominiums & home developments in NYC & Miami Beach, Florida. He was incredibly generous to those he loved and also to those he didn’t know, gifting Israel a cardiac care ambulance in the 70s along with his father, Jack.
The accomplishment he was always the most proud of was his family. He always put his family first and devoted his life to caring for his wife, his children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
Gilbert was a compassionate, loving, strong-willed, big-hearted man. He was adventurous, accepting, and always open to learning about new people & the world. He encouraged his grandchildren to be exactly who they were. He was so funny and loved to make jokes that made everyone say ’shhhhh!!!’ in public. He showed everyone patience & grace. He was his family’s rock & a constant source of comfort. He loved going to Disney World with his children & grandchildren, traveling through the Great Smoky Mountains every summer, and making his family nervous when he would slip in the rapids and natural swimming holes along the way. He never said no to good jokes & a weekly game of cards with his closest friends.
He is so loved that several family members opened their homes to him in the later years of his life, all wanting to spend as much time with him as possible. He lived with Niece Robin & Great-Nephew Adam Stein in North Miami Beach, with Daughter Denise & son-in-law Luis Corral in Plantation, and Daughter Suzanne, son-in-law Alan, and grandchildren Audrey & Michael Friedman in Pembroke Pines before finally, following them around the Northeast. Experiencing the beautiful Catskills of New York & Salem, Massachusetts - where he was in constant search of bears (no such luck!) and kept the heat on the highest possible setting. Although a huge lover of animals throughout his life, he resisted the idea of having pets in his later years though when he moved in with family, he lit up in their presence, always bringing home toys and treats, and could always be seen holding his fluffy white cat, Bobby, on his scooter. They became best friends, inseparable, and slept together every night.
Although his family is thankful he lived a long, happy, and fulfilling life, there is no amount of time with him that would have been enough. He is so missed, loved and his memory will always be a blessing to all who were lucky enough to know him. We only wish we could have witnessed the reunion between him and his beloved late wife, who he loved, cherished, and missed so much.
He is survived by his four children - Daughter Denise and son-in-law Luis Corral, Son Clifford & daughter-in-law Nancy Sens, Son Brian & daughter-in-law Shari Sens, & Daughter Suzanne & son-in-law Alan Friedman. His brother Alan & sister-in-law Lynda Sens. His grandchildren, Jacob & spouse Deicy Corral, Steven & spouse Nikki Corral, Ben & spouse Sari Sens, Amy & spouse Robert Livingstone, Alex Sens, Robert & spouse Christina Sens, Jackie & spouse Kenny Rader, Allison & spouse Adam Hoyt, Audrey Friedman & Michael Friedman. His great-grandchildren Sophia, Martin & Joshua (Jacob & Deicy), Olivia & Harlie (Ben & Sari), Sam, Jack, Jason & Annabella (Amy & Robert), Honor, Bree & Asher Sens (Robert & Christina), Aiden Rader (Jackie & Kenny), Avery, Aubrie & Ashlyn Hoyt (Allison & Adam), Bobby the Cat (Audrey Friedman), and countless nieces & nephews.
