H. Ruth Goldstein was born in Manchester, England, and was raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland, the eldest of four children of "Mott" and Gertie Nemtzov. In 1947, she married Saul Penick, an American GI. They raised their family in Miami, FL. Following Saul's death, Ruth married Alex Stern, and following his death, she married Herbert Goldstein, who survives her. Ruth was well-known in the Jewish Early Childhood Education community, where she was a charter member of the Jewish Council of Early Childhood Educators and later served as its president. Her long career included teaching pre-school at Temple Zion, and Temple Emanu El, then advanced to becoming the director of the preschools at Temples Or Olom and Samu-El. She also taught Sunday school at Temple Beth Am. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Joel Penick (Ellen), her daughter Debby Penick Levinson (Rick), two grandchildren: Ryan Levinson (Nicole), and Lisa Levinson Williams (Chad), and three great-grandchildren: Karson, Nolan and Mia Williams, as well as two stepsons Gary (Jill) Goldstein, Howard Goldstein and their families.
