Harold

We saw him give a hand to the biggest orchestras, 
Plus to the smallest bands,
Be friendly to those he knew for a lifetime
And to those he'd just met in a jam.

He knew how to weigh the heaviest thoughts,
And carry the heaviest stuff.
You knew that Harold loved you even when,
His voice turned a little gruff.

Always a grandpa who couldn't be prouder,
Taking an interest in all that they did.
Calling for them to play bolder and louder,
From science to music, he loved every kid. 

A father who knew what "being there" meant,
Not just his body, his soul always went.
A husband whose true loving devotion
Played out in his perpetual motion.

No job was too big
Or too small in his life,
He just got the jobs done
To support his dear wife.

No poem could do justice
To one we hold so dear.
No words could ever cover
All you've meant to us for years.

My deepest condolences to the Sackstein Family. The Warrens were connected to the Sacksteins through music for almost 50 years. His never-ending love and support for his family was always admired as was the smile that was always on his face.  Rest in peace.  You will be missed.

One of my fondest memories of Harold was when I'd show up to the house for a piano lesson and he'd say, "You eaten?"  Truly a man who never met a stranger, his was the steady, good-natured presence at musical events of all kinds.  It was a joy to know him.

Harold was the loving, kind, funny and wise man we all wish we could have as a father/grandfather/friend.  I was lucky to know him and I know he will be missed by everyone whose lives he touched.

Harold Sackstein was a true lover of music, and he supported all of Rosalina's students. I used to practice at their home, and he would bring coffee, make recordings, or do whatever else he could to help.  Whenever Harold answered the phone he would say, "Rose, its tweet-tweet," which was his pet name for Byrd. A candle went out on earth with the death of Harold Sackstein and I will miss him.  My prayers are with all the family.

To his country, Harold Sackstein gave the last measure of devotion in time of war.  To his issue, as father and grandfather,he stood firmly and unconditionally in support of their many outstanding academic and artistic achievements.  To Harold, all this came naturally for he seemed born to nurture and place the interests of others always before his own. These far-reaching gifts cannot be  measured in mere words. I salute a life well lived and a great family because of it.

Our memories of Harold will be filled with the kind, calm and gentle person that we knew. Although he will be missed, he graduated with dignity and honor.
