It is with both profound sorrow and deep gratitude for a life richly lived that we share the passing of June Newbauer,. She was a remarkable woman whose elegance, strength and fierce devotion to family and community left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
June’s passion for Miami Beach and its heritage stayed with her throughout her life. She was filled with invaluable stories and memories etched in time. Her memory, even as she got older, was detailed and precise. Historians would often contact her hoping to learn something new about Miami Beach's rich history.
June and her beloved husband, Julian, started a family jewelry store in old Downtown Miami. Flagler Street was a dynamic area back in the 1940’s! Children came along shortly after the store’s opening. Julian, a graduate of Boston University and Jan, a graduate of University of Miami were lucky to have such wonderful parents. Julian Jr. remained in Miami to join his father at Kirk Jewelers. Jan moved to Washington DC when she became enamored with the city and the weather.
Family was everything to June. Nothing was better than a day spent with Julian, and Alisa (Julian’s wife), and her Grandchildren, Jeffrey and Allison. It got even better when Jeff and Allison married. Jeff to Malena and Allison to Matt. Of course Great Grandchildren added to the clan. Sienna, Lily and Austin. Three generations of children!! Then of course, getting together with extended family, like Alisa’s sister, Nancy, special friends and interesting people. June was always up for a party!
June will be deeply missed by her family, friends and community.
