Harris, Lillian Rachel, 99, of West Miami, passed away on December 28, 2017 at her home where she was West Miami's longest resident in the history of the city. Those of a certain generation will remember her as "Ranger Lil" as she was the originator of the Coral Gables Federal's "Coral G. Rangers" youth savings initiative in the mid 1950's. Born in Havana, she preceded the massive migration of Cubans into Florida and in many ways served as a bridge for many of them. One way she did this was as a District Manager for The World Book Encyclopedia where she managed an all Cuban sales force that focused on using The World Book to help acculturate recent refugees. She was active in civic and synagogue activities at Temple Beth Tov and Temple Zion.
She is survived by her sons, Sam (Lynn) of Beachwood, Ohio and Joe (Cindy) of Washington, DC, seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was loved and cherished by many of all sizes, ages, colors and languages that affectionately referred to her as "Aunt Lil".
Graveside services will be held on Sunday, December 31st at 10 am at Mount Nebo Miami Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements under the direction of Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapels at Mount Nebo (Kendall), Miami, FL.
