Macy A. Appelbaum of Venice, FL, born on May 29, 1946 and raised in Birmingham, AL, raised his family in Miami, FL then resided in Palm Coast, Sebring, and finally retired in Venice, FL until he passed away on August 10th, 2018 in his home , surrounded by his family, at 82 years of age.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Appelbaum, son Russell Appelbaum, Venice, FL and daughter Robyn Dixon, Tallahassee FL. Grandchildren Mathew (Sandy) and David Appelbaum, Miami, FL and Dayna Gandy (Cameron) Tallahassee, FL. Great grandchild, Jacob Appelbaum, Miami, FL.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Kelvie and Ann Appelbaum, Birmingham, AL.
Macy attended the University of Alabama, he was a member of Kappa Nu Fraternity, and a super proud fan of Alabama Crimson Tide Football, and everyone knew it. He was a highly respected leader in the scrap metal business and the owner of Southern Metals, Inc., until he retired in 1986. As a self described “workaholic”, he relocated to Sebring, FL where he began and developed a plant nursery, then on to several other odd jobs, before retiring again in Venice.
Macy loved to fish, race and buy cars and play tennis and was a great family provider.
A private family funeral service will be held at Mt. Nebo Memorial, Miami, FL.
