Marilyn Annette Jenkins, 81 of Miami, died at her home on Tuesday, June 8th 2021 surrounded by family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, David William Jenkins, her four sons Kenny Lord of Miami, Blaise Jenkins of New York, Simon Jenkins of Vero Beach and Gareth Jenkins of Miami, her daughter Suzanne Jenkins of London, nine grandchildren Maya, Emily, Maximus, Georgina, Hugo, Nikolas, Jacob, Kay and Abigail Jenkins, one sister and best friend Sheila (“Batty”), one brother Leslie, numerous loving in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Marilyn was born July 6th 1939 in Kingston, Jamaica to Melmoth and Pearl Alexander. She had seven siblings; Raymond, Marjorie, Freddie, Earl “Spoggy”, Sheila, Leslie and Mavis, all of whom contributed to a large, busy and spirited family. She attended school at Hampstead and the Alpha Academy, followed by a brief but eventful modelling career while living in Toronto and New York. In 1962, she returned to Jamaica where she met David, and they married in 1966.
They travelled extensively with David’s work, living in Barbados, Bermuda, England and then Bahrain, where they lived for 11 years before moving to Miami in 1990. She loved to travel, venturing with her children and siblings across the US and Europe, dreaming of return trips to Hong Kong, Thailand and the Far East.
She loved to plan gatherings, throw parties, and be surrounded by family. She loved games and puzzles, visiting the casino, and playing cards, where she was fiercely competitive once she sat at the table. She loved music, dancing and to laugh.
The visitation will be 9 -10am on Sunday, June 13th followed by the service at 10 am at Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapel, 5900 SW 77th Avenue, Miami, Florida 33143. The family will hold shiva, and celebrate her life at Marilyn’s family home after the service, 21440 SW 98th Court, Cutler Bay, Florida 33189.
