In Memory of Dr. Mike Berman

It is with profound sadness that I write to honor the memory of my dear friend, Dr. Mike Berman, who passed away on May 24, 2026.

Mike and I shared a friendship going back to 2003. Throughout those years, I came to know him as an outstanding medical professional — farsighted, deeply respected in the healthcare community, and unfailingly generous. He was a visionary who foresaw how China’s rise would shape the world, in both positive and negative way. For example, he amazed China’s stem cells treatment but concerned its reckless development without rules. His cautious vision was verified by Covid-19, which the possibilities of the virus escaping from the lab. he worked tirelessly to bring people together across boundaries. Because of Mike’s reputation, Putian City, Fujian Province, China, signed the agreement to invite Dr. Berman to setup the high quality of the international healthcare standards in 2017. By that time, more than 90% private hospitals in China were owned by Putian people. If Dr. Berman were allowed to setup the high-quality healthcare standards in China, it could help to stop or shrink the virus spread in and out of China in 2019. Above all, Mike had a remarkable gift for making everyone around him feel welcome and valued. His friendship was a true blessing to all who were fortunate enough to know him.

I will always cherish the memories we shared and the conversations, laughter, and experiences that enriched my life. Although Mike is no longer with us, his legacy lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

My deepest condolences go to Jane and the entire Berman family during this difficult time. May the love of family and friends provide strength and comfort and may the cherished memories of Mike bring peace in the days ahead.

Mike will be greatly missed, but he will never be forgotten.

Dear Jane,
​Our condolences to you on Mike’s passing. I will always remember our friendship of 55 years with love, gratitude and smiles. Mike was a mentor who became a close friend to both Karen and I. Like many lifelong friendships  we experienced the sadness and joy of a lifetime together. As time passes one realizes just how unique and special that truly is. We will treasure our memories of times with Mike, that sparkle in his eyes and his enthusiasm of living a full rewarding life. One has many  colleagues and acquaintances  throughout life but very few have the love and loyalty of  a friend like Mike. We really appreciate all the care and love that   surrounded him at the end along with his loveable dogs.
​Although we will not be able to attend his service our thoughts and prayers will be with you and the family.

I am sorry for your loss.  Mike was one of the fun cousins. Klein family  bar mitzvahs and weddings were always a blast.  I have such fond memories of the time I spent at the Berman home.  Sending much love💕💕

Mike was a man of great character.   We met at the University of Maryland in 1984.  Mike provided outstanding leadership to the Department of Pediatrics, the Insurance trust and University Physicians.  We worked on many projects together that resulted in benefits to all.  Mike loved to Captain his many vessels.   And, never backed down from having a good time and spreading cheer to all.  We will miss him dearly.   He was a good friend and advisor.  May he rest in peace.
