Michael A. Berman M.D., passed away peacefully at his home on May 24 at age 83. At the time of his death, he was living in Palmetto Bay, Florida, previously a resident of New York, Connecticut and Maryland. Memories of Mike center on his contributions to medicine and love of boating and fishing—passions shared generously with all who crossed his path. A lifelong innovator, in 1976 he invented the Berman angiographic catheter for pediatric heart disease which remains a staple throughout the world. That same year, he drafted a fishing lure in hopes of more “catching than fishing”.
A beloved husband, devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather, loving brother, uncle and son. Mike was born in 1942 to Gertrude Klein Berman and Joseph Berman. He was predeceased in death by wife Susan S. Swift. He is survived by his wife, Jane
Silverman Berman, stepchildren Cole and Westley Silverman, his daughters Beth Berman Michelson (Jamie Michelson) and Debra Berman Howard (Teddy Howard) and their mother, Karen F. Stapf. He leaves behind grandchildren: Rebecca Michelson (Peter Acquisto), Brooke Michelson (Alex Lautzenheiser), Reese Howard, and great granddaughter Millie Acquisto. He will also be missed by his adored Portuguese Water Dogs, Cutty and Stevie.
A memorial service will be held June 2, 2026, 10:30am at Temple Beth Am, 5950 N Kendall Drive, Pinecrest, FL.
