Miriam Schenkman

SCHENKMAN, MIRIAM Pinecrest, Florida Mrs. Miriam Schenkman, 93, born September 21, 1923 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Louis and Julia Ross, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2016. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack Schenkman, whom she married March 21, 1947 in New Jersey. Jack had just returned from World War II as a US Army fighter pilot instructor and had just started his new company, Industrial Plastics, when they met on a blind date. Their honeymoon was in Miami Beach, then they went back to New Jersey. In 1957, they returned to Miami and settled in Pinecrest with their two sons, Joel and Michael, in the home that Jack himself built. Miriam was a homemaker involved in all aspects of her family's life. She was a founding member of Temple Beth Am, an active member of Hadassah, American Technion Society, Greater Miami Jewish Federation and a Founder at Baptist Health of South Florida. The beloved mother of son Joel Schenkman, M.D., daughter-in-law Randy Schenkman, M.D., Miami, grand-daughter Lara Hechtkopf, grandsonin-law Bram Hechtkopf, great-grandson Jozy Raines Hechtkopf, Miami Beach, grandson Ian Schenkman, granddaughter- in-law Lauren Vingiano Schenkman, great-grandson Luciano Gus Schenkman, New York City. Beloved mother of son Michael Schenkman, D.D.S, daughter-in-law Rita Schenkman, granddaughter Melissa Schenkman, Atlanta, grandson Adam and grand-daughter Allison Schenkman, New York City. Beloved aunt of Susan and Barton Ross, D.D.S., Betsy and Larry Ross, Daryl and Gary Bauer. A private service will be held at Mount Nebo Kendall Memorial Gardens, 5900 S.W. 77 Avenue, Miami, Florida, on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at 12:30 pm.
