Phillip Berg, 63, passed away peacefully on April 26th, at his home in Miami, Florida with his family by his side.

Phil was born August 29th, 1957 in the Bronx, New York to Edith and Julius Berg.

In 1994, Phil became a Claims Adjuster at Assurant Inc. after he and his family made the move to Miami to be closer to relatives and to enjoy the beautiful Florida beaches. Over the course of 10 years, and alongside his Assurant colleagues who were more like family, Phil’s compassionate nature and dedication to service as an Adjuster helped hundreds of families during their time of need. Prior to that, he worked for many years as an Admissions Counselor for Baruch College N.Y.C. where he helped thousands of students pursue their lifelong dreams of achieving a higher education.

Phil is described by all as the most loving, kind and happy person they’ve had the pleasure of meeting. His smile – contagious, his heart – larger than life, his love for his family and friends – endless. He travelled the world with Sylvia, his wife of 35 years and his son Jacob, who was the apple of his eye.

While his life may have been shorter than most, the memories we created and the indelible joy Phil’s presence made in our lives will live in our hearts for eternity.

Dear Sylvia—this is Roxanne, Grace’s friend who used to work with Phil when he was a paralegal in Racine. I was very sorry to hear about Phil’s passing. He was a wonderful guy, and I remember the laughs we had over the many lunches we had together. That firm wasn’t exactly the greatest place to work, and having a friend like Phil made it tolerable. My sincere condolences to you and Jake.

Sylvia & Jake - my most sincere condolences. Phil was a wonderful guy and it was my great pleasure to know him. I have such happy memories of your family. Among many many others are: "I'm in Minooka Park and I can only go right;" steak from "the magic freezer" at my parents house; and your having me to visit in Miami when Jake was the perfect baby New Year.

Love to you both,
Grace Howard

KENNETH CONWELL

April 29, 2021

Dear Sylvia and Jake,

We, the Conwells, will always remember Phil. We are so sorry for your loss. Rest your minds, because life is not according to our plans, but HIS plans.

The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. He has me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside the still waters. He revives my soul; He guides me on paths of righteousness for His glory. Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no harm, For you are with me ... Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, And I shall abide in the house of the Lord forever.

Rest in peace Phil!
