Cohen, Saul A., 93 of Miami Beach, FL, passed away on February 18, 2013 after a heroic battle with leukemia. Born to Gertrude and Irving Cohen in New York City, he was pre-deceased by his loving wife of 69 years, Roslyn Winston Cohen and his daughter Judy Cohen Beets.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Cohen Plotkin (Jay) of Atlanta, GA, grandson, Gregory Roth of Aventura, FL, granddaughter, Ilene Plotkin Lakin (David) of Atlanta, GA and great-grandchildren Andrew & Matthew Roth and Sophie & Seth Lakin.
He studied Business Administration and Law at Fordham and Columbia Universities. In 1941 he enrolled in CPTP where he earned a private Pilot License and later that year enlisted in US Army Air Corps on the day following the attack on Pearl Harbor. After 6 months as a Corporal he enrolled in OCS and earned his 2nd Lt Commission. Following the end of WWII in 1945, he left the Air Corps as a Captain at which time he and Roslyn moved to Miami Beach and raised a family.
He was a long time hotelier and owned and operated numerous prominent hotels until his retirement – Di Lido, New Yorker, Poinciana, Ritz Plaza, Deauville, Shore Meade, Esplanade and many others. He also supported and was active in many organizations and was a Founder and Society Member of Mt. Sinai Medical Center Foundation.
He enjoyed his family, golf, boating, fishing, HAM radio, photography, motorcycling and private flying. He especially enjoyed his Sunday golf games with his wife Roslyn and their friends.
Funeral Services on Thursday, February 21, at 11 AM at Lakeside Memorial Park and Funeral Home 10301 NW 25th Street, Miami, FL 33172 (305) 592 0690. Rabbi Robert Davis of Temple Beth Sholom will officiate.
