Sheldon was born in Chicago Illinois, son of Obbie and Vera Rosenthal who immigrated from Canada to the US in the 1940’s.
When Sheldon was five years old, the family moved to Miami, Florida where he met the love of his life and made a home.
Sheldon met his wife Audrey when they were teens (15 and 17, respectively) and dated briefly before he shipped off to serve overseas as a United States Marine.
They wrote letters to each other for several years and when he finally returned home to Miami, he proposed to her on the Rickenbacker Causeway while gazing across the bay. He asked her, “Would you marry a Marine?” She said, “I don’t know, a Marine’s never asked me.” He then asked…“Will you marry me?” Their song was “Moon River”.
They were married in 1960 surrounded by family and friends. While she worked as a school teacher, he attended the University of Miami and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Eventually they adopted two children, Laura and David.
They celebrated 60 years together before Audrey passed away in July of 2020. His greatest desire was to see his grandchildren grow and his family happy.
Sheldon is survived by his son David Jeffrey Rosenthal, daughter Laura Anne Embry, son-in-law Darren Embry, three grandchildren, Niko, Luka, and Lena, his nephew Lawrence Dreese, his wife Ana and their two children Lauren and Harrison, and his niece Andrea DeVita, husband Alan Nichols and stepdaughter Anja.
A graveside service for Sheldon will be held Thursday, January 30, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Mount Nebo/Kendall Memorial Gardens, Miami, Miami, FL 33143.
