April 29, 1927 - March 22, 2021
Coconut Grove, Florida - Sol Center passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on 3/22/2021.
Sol and his wife Mitzi moved to Miami in 1957, where he began his private practice as a Thoracic Surgeon, primarily at Mount Sinai and Cedars Hospitals. In 1972, he successfully implanted a nuclear-powered pacemaker, only the third implant in the US. In 1973, he went to Israel as a volunteer surgeon during the Yom Kippur War. In the late 80s, Sol began the retirement he so deserved and enjoyed over the next three decades, playing tennis almost daily, followed by lunch with friends and spending quality time with family. What a great life he lived!
Predeceased by parents Aaron Moses and Hannah, Sol is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Mitzi, children Lynda Hunter (Jeff), David (Marlene), Lauren and Elayna Center and grandchildren Hannah and Hayley Hunter and Danielle Center. A special thank you to Drs. Ed Neff and Carlos Gonzalez for their extraordinary care and concern.
Due to Covid, private services were held. In memory of Sol, please consider a donation to Boys Town Jerusalem, Birthright Israel or Greater Miami Jewish Federation.
