Friedman, Sylvia Stern, died peacefully on May 27, after an extraordinary life in Miami with her late husband Judge Milton Friedman. Born in Charleston and raised in Columbia with her four siblings, she moved to Miami with Milton in 1940. While she taught, danced, produced stunning pieces of art, achieved Bridge Life Master status, and raised three children, she helped Milton become the Chief Judge of the Municipal Court, where he integrated the judicial system, and later become a Circuit Court Judge. Together with their contemporaries, they helped Miami grow from a sleepy southern town to a sophisticated and modern metropolis. She leaves a legacy of charm, elegance, and graciousness to her adoring children, Ronald, Kenneth, and Judith, their spouses, Janyce, Dale, and Ronald Goldstock, her six grandchildren,Darren and Brett Friedman, David Samson and Lisa Samson-Gatto, and Deborah Goldstock Ringel and Jenny Goldstock Wright; and 10 great grandchildren: Marusha, Olivia, Jake, Jaden, Tyler, Sam, Emily, Danny, Bennett and Braden, sisters Anne Solomon, Tillie Posin and Irene Samuels. She will be terribly missed, not only by her family, but by all of those who had the good fortune to claim her as a friend.
Shiva will be Thursday, from 2:00 to 9:00, at 2 Grove Isle Drive, Apt., 307, Coconut Grove.
