Warren Janowitz

November 6, 1947 - September 27, 2023

Warren Janowitz MD, JD, FACR, FACC, FACNM, FSCCT, FAHA, passed away on September 27, 2023, surrounded by his heartbroken family. He is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Elizabeth; his children, Michelle (Charles), Scott (Yonah), And Allison (Joseph); his six grandchildren; his brother Steve; and many cousins and loved ones.

Born in the Bronx, Warren was a graduate of Bronx High School of Science. He obtained both his B.S. in Nuclear Engineering magna cum laude and his M.D. (2018 Alumni Leadership Awardee) from New York University. He completed his internship and residencies in Miami, FL and was Board Certified in both Nuclear Medicine and Internal Medicine. At that point, he served to Lieutenant Commander for the Navy and in the Navy Reserves.

While working as a full time physician, he earned a J.D. at the University of Miami School of Law, graduating magna cum laude. Early in his career, Warren acted as the Director of the Cardiovascular Section of Radiology and as an Associate Professor of Nuclear Medicine at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach. He transitioned to the medical Director of Molecular Imaging for Baptist Health of South Florida facilities as a partner with Radiology Associates of South Florida. He also served as a School of Medicine Associate Professional at FIU and the University of Miami.

Warren was an accomplished and distinguished doctor in the field of nuclear medicine, ultrasound, and Cardiac CT with an insatiable thirst for for knowledge and education. He published numerous juried and invited articles as well as co- authored landmark papers on Cardiac CT. Dr. Janowitz developed the formula for calcium scoring for early detection of coronary atherosclerosis. Additionally, he held numerous positions in national and governmental societies and agencies, including President of the American College of Nuclear Medicine, Chairman of the Radiation Safety Advisory Committee for the State of Florida and specialty council for the Florida Medical Association.

Warren was a dedicated family man, and he will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and coworkers.

A funeral service for Warren will be held Monday, October 2, 2023 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Temple Beth Am, 5950 N. Kendall Dr., Pinecrest, FL 33156.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in his memory.
