Brian was a devoted husband to his wife, Cindy, for over 20 years. He was an incredible father to his two children, Taylor and Brooke. He was Uncle “Bri–Bri” to his five nieces and three nephews. Dedicated to his family and deeply loyal to his friends, Brian lived a life of constant service and humor.
A true nerd in every sense of the word, he was a legend among his former students from the years he taught high school and college science, math, and computers. He kept his students engaged in all these deep subjects by reading from his joke book—Pocket Smiles—each morning or confiscating enough bouncy balls to fill his desk drawer. If that did not work, there may or may not have been dry-erase markers launched across the room—and he had wicked aim.
Brian was known for his dry, witty sense of humor. He is remembered for donning any costume for any skit at any time. Whether evangelizing the neighborhood as a Mormon or hosting a fake game show in a stunning leisure suit, he made you laugh whether you wanted to or not.
Brian’s creativity was a cornerstone of his church’s ministry. As a gifted graphic designer, he gave a visual voice to the church, designing everything from book covers and logos to advertisements and everything in between. If there was a professional look to a project, it was almost certainly Brian’s handiwork—his way of turning a simple idea into a work of art.
He loved the Lord and was committed to helping others. Throughout the years, he taught boys’ Sunday school, served as the youth director, and captained a successful church bus route. Many of those young riders are now adults who still attend church today. He also became known as the leader of the “nerd nest” (aka the sound room) at church. Brian engineered the church’s sound system from the ground up. He was a master at the soundboard and a lifesaver when it came to troubleshooting, always working behind the scenes to make sure everything ran perfectly. Plus, he threatened to mute Pastor’s mic on a regular basis.
Brian is survived by his wife, Cindy; his two children, Taylor and Brooke; his mother, Debra Healy; his father, Michael Healy, and his wife, Patti; his sister and brother-in-law, Heather and Greg Neal and their daughters, Alyssa, Anna, and Addison. Beyond his immediate family, he will be deeply missed by his uncle, aunts, and cousins, as well as the many friends and fellow Christians he served alongside at Immanuel Baptist Church.
Brian’s life was a testament to the idea that you can serve the Lord with both excellence and a sense of humor. He was the anchor of his family and a constant help to his church and others. He leaves not only a void that cannot be filled but also a memory that will always bring a smile to our faces. His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant…
