Christopher Kenneth Covey, 57, of Middleburg, Florida passed into the arms of our Lord and Savior on July 4th, 2020. The son of Kenneth and Jeanne (Sauter) Covey of Panama City. Chris was a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and part of the bigger Cove family. Chris graduated Bay High School in 1981, attended Gulf Coast Community College, followed in his Dad’s footsteps at Mid-South Lumber of Panama City, and loved helping his Mom at Covey’s Deli.
Chris became President of the Home Builders Association and was a successful builder and contractor, eventually moving to Middleburg, Fl to continue in the building industry. An avid competitive Sailor, Chris was a fixture at the St Andrews Yacht Club for many years, skillfully skippering many sailing yachts to strings of victories. Of course, a skilled Sailor enjoys great food – and Chris was no exception. A culinary virtuoso, he loved catering for many but mostly, Chris loved to cook for family and friends after a day of sailing or of talking about sailing.
Chris was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanne, his father, Kenneth J. Covey both of Panama City, and is survived by his former wife, Suzanne, and their daughter, Kristen, both of Panama City. He is also survived by a sister, Sue (Dan) Kilcullen of Barrie, Ontario, Canada; a brother, Matthew (Tammy) Covey; and a sister, Kate (Jeff) McCauley of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate Chris’ life is being planned and information will be passed when a location, date and time is determined. In Lieu of flowers please make donations to the Humane Society.
