She was born in Jacksonville, FL on December 3, 1928, to the late William and Bertie Ruth Carmine. She grew up in Avondale, graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1947 and Rochester Institute of Technology in 1951, in Rochester, New York. She and her beloved husband of 53 years Michael J. Fontana were married May 31, 1963. Mrs. Fontana was a member of the Orange Park Women Club and the Garden Club of Orange Park Whipperwill Circle. She was preceded by one son Michael James Fontana and three sisters, Mrs. Bertie Clark Carmine Roger, Jewel Carmine Cavenaugh and Sarah Carmine Kreuter. She is survived by her husband, Michael J. Fontana; a daughter Sandra R. Fontana, granddaughters Anastasia Garnett and Cora Fontana and Marci Jefferson. A graveside service will be held 11 AM Thursday September 22, 2016 at Evergreen Cemetery, 4535 Main Street North Jacksonville, FL 32206.
