I scarcely play a round of golf without remembering Gene.  Whenever I hit a big bump in the golf cart, I remember Gene asking me if I wanted to go back to see if I missed a bump or root.  He was a great friend and good-natured ribbing was a part of our relationship.  I still miss him.

It’s crazy a whole year has gone by.  I miss talking with you and you helping me through anything that I need.  I miss you so much. You were my first love. I am very proud to call you my father. I am still having a hard time accepting you’re gone. You were always just a phone call away. Today was VERY hard for me. Gene and I became friends about 15 years ago.  Eventually, we became almost-every-week golfing partners.  I suspect the last golf he ever played was with me at NAS Jacksonville.    We also shared the bond of being Air Force veterans.  We both had  a love of fishing and he loved to recount his many trips to the South Platte River outside of Denver while he was stationed at Lowry AFB.  I planned to teach him how to fish for bass but we never seemed to be able to accomplish that goal.  We enjoyed each others company and I will miss him until we meet again on the other side.

I know that Gene will be greatly missed as the Nardi family is a very loving family.  I first met Gene "100" years ago.  Honestly, I can't remember the date.  It was a canoe trip in southern Indiana.  Other than when it was.....  I had a great time and enjoyed meeting Gene.  



I am the Secretary for the Vietnam Veterans of America Colonel  William G. Byrns Chapter 1059 in Clay County. I met Gene in 2012 when he became a member. We hit it off being among only a handful of members who were prior Air Force.  Every meeting I really looked forward to seeing him and talking about his experiences.  He was such a kind and gentle man, and I will truly miss him. RIP Brother Gene.  Condolences to his family and friends. 

Uncle Gene was in my thoughts and I was reminded of him through my family. I thank him for his service to our country and for his devotion to the family I love. 

We will miss you and you will forever be in our hearts…

When Mom picked us up as her own, you didn't hesitate to do the same. You were always proud of us (Me, Aleta, Jake) and made sure we knew. Aleta and I are looking at some pictures right now from that time at the zoo and laughing at the good memories. We'll miss you and our favorite rest stop on the way to Ft. Myers. We love you.

One of the fondest memories of my brother Gene is when he was leaving for the Air Force. He was 18/19 yrs old and I was 7/8 which makes it around 1955. He was all dressed up in his AF blues uniform and looked so handsome. I grabbed him around his knees crying my eyes out because he was leaving me. He put his arms around me, said he loved me, would see me again soon and not to cry. I’ll always remember that image of my handsome brother.
