Mr. Homer was a kind, gentle, and hysterical soul. My heart hurts for Mrs. Dianne and his family. You all will be in my thought and prayers. 

I first met Homer in 1975 in Memphis for A school he always had a balance about him.  He knew life was to be lived.  I followed him to Jacksonville thru SAR  and SERE school then HS-1 and eventually HS-9 as shipmates. All the time he had that smile and balance.  In 1979 we went in different directions until we met again roughly 35 yrs later.  Homer was still Homer a man who loved life and still the balance of serious and fun.  The last time I saw Homer we played golf and it seamed just like 1975 cutting up and enjoying life.  He always had that smile and balance.  RIP brother see on the tee box brother. 

I served with Homer in HS-9 from 78-81, lot of memories from the 
Med-IO cruise 79-80. Homer was an inspirational leader, true friend, and a loyal shipmate. He will always be remembered.

Homer was a leader that formed so many sailors career.  My prayers go out to the family.

I server in the Navy with Homer in HS-9. He was a fine shipmate! My condolences to his family.

A steady, calm, reasoned Sailor who treated his shipmates with dignity and respect.  A dignified, honorable, trustworthy man of integrity, grace, grounding, spirituality, and friendship.   A person who did God's work through his example, his spirit, his character, and his belief.   May God welcome you home from a journey well lived.

Memorial Service

Mr. Burress is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Diane Burress; son, David Burress; daughter, Tiffanie (Nicholas) Stott; 2 sisters: Ailene (Jerry) Heard and Nannie (Bill) Elmore; 2 precious grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
