Janice Noreen Olson, 84, of Orange Park, Florida, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2026. Born October 30, 1941, in Minnesota, Janice’s life was shaped early by both change and perseverance. She came from a large family of 13 brothers and sisters; after being separated from her siblings at a very young age, she was adopted by Hugo and Eva Bursch, who became her beloved parents. Through every season, Janice carried herself with quiet resilience, steady loyalty, and a gentle, compassionate spirit that others could feel in her presence.
Janice lived in Minnesota until the age of 18, when she married Ronald Olson. As a devoted Navy wife, she embraced the many moves that military life required—living in Illinois, California, Tennessee, and Florida—meeting each new chapter with the kind of courage and adaptability that marked her throughout her years. She came to Florida in 1978, and although she and Ronald later moved to Wisconsin in 2003 to be near family, she returned to Florida around 2016, continuing to make a home wherever she was, with generosity, warmth, and a steady sense of purpose.
A hard-working professional, Janice served as a medical transcriptionist for multiple doctors in Orange Park. She also shared a remarkable gift for music as a professional pianist and organist, playing full time in several churches in the area, as well as for many funerals and weddings. In those moments—both joyful and tender—her music offered comfort, dignity, and hope, reflecting a selfless heart and an inspiring devotion to serving others.
Janice’s love of music extended well beyond her work. She was a member of the ladies singing group Sweet Adelines and found joy in singing and playing piano. She also played for children’s groups and VBS at church, giving her time with the same kind-hearted patience and gentle humor that made her so cherished. She enjoyed bowling, volunteering, and showing up—again and again—for the people and communities she loved.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Olson; her son, Scott Olson; her parents, Hugo and Eva Bursch; her in-laws, Robert and Leona Olson; and her brothers, Marco, Gary, and Dale.
Janice is survived by her daughter, Tammy (Daniel); her son, Michael (Shelley); her grandsons, Bryan, Joshua, Mason, and Mitchell; her sisters, Joan, Joyce, Mary(Doug), Cheryl, Lynda, and Nancy(Barry); and her brothers, Jimmy (Jean), Jerel, and David.
A Graveside Service will be held Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
