Joe was born in Philadelphia, PA, in 1946. In 1966, he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a combat engineer. He served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter Rifle, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Bronze Service Star, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device. After discharge, he lived and worked in New Jersey until retirement, when he and his loving wife of eight years, Alice, moved to Middleburg, FL, living there from 2010 until the present.
Joe was a devoted and loving husband, brother, uncle, grand-uncle, and great-grand-uncle. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Harvey Joseph Maugle; his sisters, Jackie Beckman and Delores Heller; a brother, George Maugle; and a nephew, Joseph Heller. He has one sister-in-law, Sadie; four nieces, Debbie, Janice (Eric), Linda (Mark), and Pam; four nephews, David, Michael (Jahna), John, and Chris (Carrie); five grand-nieces, Janice, Stacy, Chrissy, Karah, and Alannah; three grand-nephews, Daniel, Brandon, and Terrell; and one great-grandniece, Mia.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at 11am at Hardage-Giddens Holly Hill Funeral Home, 3601 Old Jennings Road, Middleburg, FL 32068 with 1 hour prior visitation. Interment to be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery immediately following the service.
