Lawrence was born on December 28, 1947 to Gertrude and John Cantwell in Oak Park, Illinois. After high school graduation, Larry went on to study engineering at Purdue University. He held several positions in radio and television, as a broadcast engineer, before launching a long and successful career at WLS-TV ABC Channel 7 Chicago.
Larry was an amateur radio operator, published author, accomplished machinist, and computer programming hobbyist.
He is survived by his wife Rosemary, their children Kimberly, Patrick, and Matthew (Carryn), and beloved grandchildren Katelyn, Caroline, Juliana, Nathan, and Lucas.
A graveside service for Lawrence will be held Friday, March 18, 2022 from 2:00 PM at Holly Hill Memorial Park, 3601 Old Jennings Road, Middleburg, FL 32068.
Memorial Service will be held at St. Norbert Catholic Church in Northbrook, Illinois, on April 9, 2022 at 10:30am.
