Marian M. Shaw, 87, passed away surrounded by her loving family on January 23, 2024. Born in Oak Bluffs, MA to Clement & Angeline Maury, Marian attended Marlboro Massachusetts Catholic Schools. She was a faithful member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Orange Park, FL. She was a handicrafter there, and a member of the Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP) program.
Marian attended college after her high school graduation, but then married the love of her life, Richard B. Shaw, whom she met at the roller rink. Their love and companionship lasted 52 years. Dick (as she called him) was in the U.S. Navy and Marian proudly served on the home front. Eventually, Mumma & Huy, as we call them, would have 9 children, 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Marian had many hobbies. Leathercraft, crocheting and quilting, that won her many ribbons at the Greater Jacksonville Agricultural Fair. The majority of which were 1st place ribbons.
She also penned an ode to our dog (Bernie) that won a 1 oz. gold coin from Purina. Her love of quilting gave us many treasures and fond memories. She made our Halloween costumes, Easter dresses, wedding quilts, and even some of our wedding gowns. Mumma was always willing to help anyone who asked for it on the hobbies she enjoyed. She was the quiet one that would surprise you with her brilliance.
A prolific reader, she traveled through time and space with reading. Her love of reading was passed on to her children.
Marian was also a very successful Avon lady. She won 5 Presidential Albee awards from 1982-1986. She walked her route and made friends, and got to know our neighbors' families From visiting with them in their living rooms.
Her most favorite joy was our family. Mumma was always there to cheer us on when we succeeded, and her shoulder was always available when we needed it.
A devout Catholic, Marian was a Prayer Warrior and said many prayers in the background for everyone she knew.
Marian is pre-deceased by her husband, Richard B. Shaw; son, Robert B. Shaw; daughters, Kathleen Shaw and Leda Shaw Lyerly; sons-in-law, Don Willard and Thomas Lyerly; brother, Clement Maurry; and great-grandchild, Milla Angeline Barbieri.
Marian is survived by her sons, Daniel Shaw and Jamie Shaw (Patti); daughters, Rosemary Henderson (Reed), Peggy Ryals (Tony), Marilyn Willard and Diana Shaw; and daughter-in-law, Pam Shaw. Also surviving is her brother David Maury, and sister, Martha Anderson, along with 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
