Mildred Louise Smith Zagora, 84, passed away suddenly on Tuesday June 23, 2026. She was born in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Robert Lee and Edna Herring Smith. She spent most of her early life as a Nurses Aide to both the handicapped and Elderly. Most recently at the Mary Olin Clinic in Penny Farms, Fl. Millie will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Millie was a truly selfless person. She greeted anyone and everyone with a beautiful smile and sparkling blue eyes whether she knew them or not. Frequently stopping to talk to strangers just to say Hello or thank them for their service. I used to call her a hat watcher especially after she thanked the Pepsi guy for his service when she seen a star on his shirt sleeve... her love was unconditional and she shared it without hesitation. Especially her family. Family was everything to her, she always said how blessed she was with a wonderful husband, parents, sisters, children and oh the center of her world the grans, great grans, and great greats! According to her with every generation she got greater! Millie gave an ear to anyone who needed it, a hug because she cared and love without end. Mom told me not to cry for her (of course I didn’t listen again) but I know without a doubt she is where she wanted to be, in the arms of her husband dancing in the streets of glory with her sisters Helen, Francis, Bobbi and Callie, Jimmy and Debbie just shaking their heads, Nanny and Papa watching the chaos and love that all of us were blessed to receive for 84 wonderful years.
Preceded in death by her husband, John E Zagora Jr; sisters: Helen Hash, Francis Phillips, Alice Bublitz and Callie Wynkoop; and her grandson, Jimmy Taylor.
Millie is survived by her children: Cindy L Taylor (Sean), Edna “Beth” Melton (Monty) and John E Zagora III (Robin); grandchildren: Randy Mullins Jr, Tim Taylor, Jessica Wall (Josh), Cody Melton (Paige) Justin Zagora (Heather), and Logan Zagora (Haley); great-grandchildren: Dylin, Bonnie, Austin, Aliyah, Leo, Raven, Allen, Shelby, Desirae, Taylor, Ellie and Riley; great-great grandchildren: Zachary and Zoey; and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held 11 AM, Friday, July 10th, 2026, at Hardage-Giddens Holly Hill Funeral Home, 3601 Old Jennings Road, Middleburg, FL. Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park.
