Norman Milton Kellar, Jr. (JR, Junior or Rooster) age 80, of Middleburg, FL passed away from Parkinson’s Disease on August 3, 2025, peacefully at 7:40 pm. He was born on July 27, 1945, in Little Rock, AR to the late Norman M. Kellar, Sr. and Mildred Bell Slusher from Ohio.
JR served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After the war, he became a semi-truck driver. JR loved hunting, boating, fishing, camping, music, dancing and shopping -exercising.
On October 22, 1967, JR married the love of his life, Gloria Jean Bailey of Rhineland, WI and they spent more than 57 years together. During their years together, the couple was a cross-country team driver. They traveled to almost every state in the United States – 48 of them. Their job wasn’t really one since they loved traveling together.
JR was predeceased by his dearly beloved parents, a sister Joyce Ann and 3 brothers, Carl, John and Charles, and many dearly missed family and friends.
JR’s beautiful family memories will be lived on by his loving wife, daughter Shawna Dee Sundy (Robert), granddaughter’s, Emily Marie Sundy and Katie Lee Sundy, great-grandchildren, Zachary James Shattuck and Agatha Bailey-Ann Shattuck, a remaining brother Ronald, sister in-laws, many dearly beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
JR was a simple man. JR will be remembered by his family and friends and by people who didn’t know him. JR would talk to anyone – strike up a conversation with someone he didn’t know. JR was a “Giver” he would give his last dollar to someone if they needed it. In his early adult years, he and his wife were known as their driving handles, Rooster and Blondie. In his later years, they were known at their place of residence, Cassie Gardens, as Barbie and Ken. The couple was always together. Also, in their later years, the couple would get exercise by walking through their favorite shopping stores Bealls Outlet, Daily Dealz and Walmart. The associates of the stores would know who they are. JR will be remembered by his many comments. One, to his family – on their travels to see family in the northern states – Gloria brake check!
Second, to anyone – have you gotten your flu or shingle shot? Third, to the ladies JR would encounter– you are pretty. Fourth, to his great-grandson – my little astronaut. Lastly, all the people have served and are currently serving our country - thank you for your service. We will miss having heated but loving conversations about his favorite topic – politics. We were the lucky ones to witness his comments to others and experience his generosity towards others. He gave incredible amounts of love to everyone, and his family absolutely loved him for it in return. He will truly be missed by many. Norman was certainly one of a kind!
A celebration of Norman’s life will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery on September 12, 2025, at 11:30 am in lane 3.
In lieu of flower memorial donations for his honor to donate to Parkinson's Foundation, The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research or American Parkinson's charities.
