Peggie Sue Williams completed her assignment on earth on Thursday, December 30, 2010 and went to be with her Lord and Savior. She joins her husband, Alvand Williams, who preceded her onto the Streets of Gold in October. 2009. Peggie Harmon was born in Elk Park, NC on August 5, 1931. She lived in Elk Park and attended Cranberry High School, where she served as a majorette in the high school band. She matriculated to Johnson Bible College in 1950, where she graduated with a degree in Christian education. Shortly after, she began working at the Sears in Knoxville, TN. She met Alvand when they both worked in the para-church organization Christian Endeavor and they wed on February 22, 1958 at Johnson Bible College, Knoxville, TN. Peggie followed Alvand as he moved from Lilydale Christian Church in Erwin, TN to one in Terra Haute, IN to another in North Augusta, SC. They moved to Jacksonville so that Alvand could continue his ministry as a teacher, an occupation he pursued for the next 30 years. Peggie took her own skills in Christian learning and earned her elementary education degree from the University of North Florida, then began teaching at WE Cherry Elementary School in 1969. Her classroom was located directly behind her home, so she could easily walk out her back door and onto the school grounds. She raised up kids to spell correctly, read thoroughly and write impeccably for 25 years, retiring in 1994. Peggie sponsored numerous Bible studies and cooked more meals for church dinners than anyone could ever remember. Along the way, she and Alvand raised four children of their own to follow in the ways of the Lord: Millicent, Rebecca, Richard and Tim filled her heart and life with joy. She also has helped mold and shape three beautiful granddaughters: Brooke, Brett and MacKenzie. After retiring from teaching, Peggie worked with Calvary International Mission Group, training and interviewing candidates to share the gospel around the world. She lived in Orange Park for 43 years and was a founding member of the Orange Park Christian Church. She taught numerous Sunday school classes and served as the lay-director of the Sunday school classes for many years. She later became a member of Christian Faith Center in Middleburg, FL. She is survived by four children and two children-in-law, seven granddaughters, and nine great grandchildren. Her brother Paul is the final remaining member of her family that grew up in North Carolina, where Tom and Virgie Harmon raised Jack, Billie Jo, Paul, Bobby, Dorothy, Christine and Theresa. In lieu of flowers, Peggie would dearly love any donations be made to the mission fund of Christian Faith Center, 4021 Everett Avenue, Middleburg, Florida.
The family will receive friends Sunday 3-5pm at HOLLY HILL FUNERAL HOME, 3601 Old Jennings Road, Middleburg. Following the visitation Sunday, a memorial service will be held at Christian Faith Center. All are invited to attend. Graveside service will be held at 11am Monday at Holly Hill Memorial Park.
