Scott Jon Gilbert

Scott Jon Gilbert, 68, passed away on September 26, 2019, in Orange Park, FL. Although he was born in Summit, NJ, he moved to FL immediately after high school, graduated from Jacksonville University where he graduated with a Bachelors in Science Degree. As a person who dearly loved the ocean and beaches, Mr. Gilbert became a lifelong resident of FL where he spent much of his time enjoying the sun and surf of St. Augustine. Most summers would find him either lifeguarding at YMCA pools or working in summer camps.

These positions can be attributed not only to his love of everything sunny FL had to offer but also to another one of his lifelong passions...teaching and coaching. "Coach" Gilbert as he was better known at San Jose Episcopal Day School was respected, loved and admired not only by his students and parents but by faculty and staff alike. This alone speaks volumes, since "Coach" arrived at SJEDS fresh out of college with no experience and left behind a model for new physical education teachers that is still used today...after his 40 year career!

Mr. Gilbert was predeceased by his father, John Francis Gilbert, and is survived by his mother, Josephine Gilbert; 2 sons: Robert (Jessica) Gilbert and Chris (Tami) Gilbert. His 2 brothers, Jeff (Janet) Gilbert and Dane (Karan) Gilbert; sister, Sharon Gilbert; and 5 grandchildren: Bradley, J.D., Madyson, Rebecca and Campbell, survive him as well.

The family will honor Mr. Gilbert's request for a private memorial service.
