

Steven Floyd Farris, known affectionately as Steve, passed away on October 20, 2025, at the age of 75, in Orange Park, Florida. Born on January 11, 1950, in Arlington, Virginia, Steve grew into a man who never met a stranger, embodying warmth and friendliness in every aspect of his life. Steve graduated from James Thoreau High School and later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical Science, which paved the way for his distinguished military career. He entered the U.S. Navy in June 1969, receiving training at various prestigious posts including the Great Lakes, AIMD NAS Alameda California, and eventually serving with the Attack Squadron -75 aboard the USS Saratoga during the Vietnam War. His dedication to service continued with his reenlistment in 1976, leading to his selection to the Naval Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels. Steve concluded his illustrious military career at Patrol Squadron 5 NAS Jacksonville in 1996, retiring as ASCMAW. Following his military service, Steve transitioned to a civilian role with DADEP, where he continued to impact those around him until his retirement. Steve was a devout parishioner of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Middleburg, Florida. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his daily actions and beliefs. An avid fan of the Redskins and NASCAR, especially Kyle Larson, Steve also cherished the outdoors. He was passionate about fishing, tending to his vegetable and flower gardens, and enjoyed cooking. His love for travel and camping was only matched by his devotion to his four dogs, especially his beloved Sadie.
Steve leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Michele Rolewicz Farris; daughters, Megan Moegenburg (Tim) and Beth Young (Jason); grandchildren, Austin Farris (McKenzie), Gabrielle (Gabby) Young, Sydnee Moegenburg, and Marlee Young; and great-granddaughter, Stevie Layne Farris. He is also survived by his brother, Donnie Farris (Anita), and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Wyndham and Estelle, and brothers, Dale and Larry Dean. Steve’s legacy of warmth, dedication, and community involvement will be dearly missed and forever cherished by those who knew him.
Services for Steve will be held with a viewing on November 4, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Hardage Giddens Funeral Home located at 3601 Old Jennings Road, Middleburg, FL 32068. A Catholic Funeral will be held on November 5, 2025, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church at 11:00 am. A luncheon will follow at the church hall; attendees are requested to text 904 502 7808 to RSVP. A military service and burial will be scheduled later at the National Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida.
