He was born on May 7, 1939 in Union County, NC to the late Johnny Bay Helms and Lena Gheen Helms.
Lee retired from First Union National Bank and later worked at Sweep A Lot. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was quick-witted. He was a strong hard-working man, a fighter until the very end and a loving family man.
Mr. Helms is survived by his wife of 57 years, Doris Evans Helms; son, Clay Helms (Candy); daughter, Robin Mathews (Jimmy); granddaughter, Jennifer Mathews and grandson, Maxwell Helms.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Tony Lee Helms; a brother and a sister.
At Lee’s request, a private family service will be held at a later date.
