

Alvin O. Wilson, Jr., 70, of Matthews, died October 14, 2011 at Hospice House of Union County, after a six year battle with cancer. He enjoyed life and was an inspiration to many who knew him. He never met a stranger and was loved by many friends. It was a miracle that he lived so long with small cell carcinoma. He gave the credit to God and his great doctors. He always had a positive attitude. His favorite scripture was Micah 6:8.
Special thanks to Dr. Gary Frenette and Dr. Kenneth Coggins who have treated him since December of 2005. Also, thanks to all of the doctors, nurses and other medical staff at CMC and Hospice of Union County, who have helped make the journey easier.
Alvin was born November 21, 1940 in Forsyth, Georgia, a son of the late Alvin Otis Wilson, Sr. and Laura Bennett Wilson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Don Winston Wilson.
He is survived by his best friend and wife of 45 years, Janice Brown Wilson.
Alvin worked for various companies in food sales for 35 years. He enjoyed league bowling for many years. He was a member of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church in Mint Hill, where he served as a deacon. He had been a member of Forest Hill Presbyterian in Charlotte for eight years and Indian Trail Presbyterian in Indian Trail for 24 years. He served as an elder at Indian Trail for two terms, and served as chairman of the property and grounds at Indian Trail and Philadelphia.
A celebration of his life will be held at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church in Mint Hill with the Rev. Dr. Charles C. Williamson and the Rev. Lee Koontz officiating on Monday, October 17, at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Sunday, October 16 at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel. Burial will be in Chadbourn, NC at Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery on Tuesday, October 18, at 2:00 P.M. with the Rev. Paul Woodall officiating.
