Betty Anderson

She graduated from La Crosse Central High School and was her class commencement speaker. Betty attended La Crosse U of W for two years and transferred to the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI. She obtained her B.S. degree majoring in social work. After graduation, she worked in the federal program of old age assistance, aid to dependent children and the blind for three years; one in La Crosse and two in Appleton, WI. Later, she was employed by the Mutual Insurance Company of St. Paul to work in the personnel department. Betty was married to her beloved husband, Bob, who she met at the U of W. In 1970, he and his brother, Don, founded the Viking Insurance Company. Bob and Betty were married for nearly 60 years. He was loving, supportive and a great father. Betty enjoyed sports and the first time she played golf, she made a hole-in-one. While attending La Crosse University, she won the Women’s Tennis Tournament.

Betty like to travel, read, knit, play Bridge, volunteer and be with her family most of all. She visited 17 countries and all 50 states. She had many helicopter rides, enjoyed hot air balloon rides, rode on elephants and had a hang glider experience.

She was predeceased by her husband, Bob and her brother, Milton Wisland.

She is survived by her son, Bill (Karen) Anderson; daughter, Beth Anderson; granddaughter, Bailey (Landon) Trotter; great-grandson, Hayden; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Wisland and Bernice Smith; two step-sisters, Mary (Tom) Genz and Carol Strittmater; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends at 10:30 am followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 am Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Matthew Glen Chapel, 733 Pavilion View Drive, Matthews, NC 28105, with the Rev. Charles Wilson officiating.
