Betty Zane Proctor Dover

Betty Zane Proctor Dover of Charlotte, walked into the arms of Christ, on July 27, 2018. She was born in Charlotte on March 9, 1930, to Ernest Brooks and Grace White Proctor. Betty graduated from Harding High School, in Charlotte. She attended Oklahoma College For Women in Chickasha, OK, and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Class of 1950, where she Majored in Music. She had a passion for, and a knowledge of Music, that she passed to all of her Children, and Grandchildren. She attended The University of North Carolina at Charlotte from 1978 until 2013, as a Swimmer. She was a member of The UNC Chapel Hill Alumni Association. Betty worked as an Accountant for JP Stevens Company, and retired to become a Homemaker. She was a member of Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church, and taught the 2 and 3 year old Sunday School Class for 54 years. “A Lady Of The Shrine” First Lady Betty, with her husband, Jinks, Captain of The Oasis Patrol, enjoyed many years of great fellowship and service with the Oasis Shriners, and The ROJ Court 109. From delivering toys to the Gaston Shriners Children’s Hospital at Christmas, to Funding Worldwide Shriner’s Hospitals, countless Shrine Parades, The Carolina Shrine Bowl, and many more caring endeavors. She also enjoyed The Beach, Baking, Gardening, Sewing, Yard Sales, Canning, NASCAR, and while her family was her Greatest Love, she also loved UNC Basketball … “GO HEELS!” was one of her favorite things to say! She is survived by her Husband of 57 years, William Jennings “Jinks” Dover; Daughter, Deborah Zane King and husband, Tom, of Mint Hill, Son, Brooks Jennings Dover and wife, Leslie, of Charlotte and Daughter, Gigi Dover-Lovell and husband, Eric, of Charlotte; Grandchildren, Rusty Campbell King and wife, Ashley, of Locust and Brooks Jennings Dover, Jr. of Charlotte; and Great Grandchildren, Ryder Zane King and Elliot Rosa King of Locust. Betty Zane was known for her beautiful smile, and her unfailing Kindness to everyone she met. “…Be Kind To Everyone” (2 Timothy 2:24) A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. BZD had such a zest for life that she passed on to our treasured friend Gigi. I think of Betty Zane everytime I hear the little cymbals Gigi uses in a song from her Robin is High and the Mustache is Long album.
