Catherine Elizabeth Byrne

Catherine (Cathy) Legrand Byrne entered into heaven on April 23rd 2017 as she completed her duties here on earth as a Christian servant for God. Cathy was 90 years old when she passed away at her loving “home” at The Little Flower Assisted Living Center in Mint Hill.

Cathy was born November 2, 1926 in Charlotte, and grew up on Thomas Avenue in the old midwood section near downtown. She learned to play music at a young age and carried that desire throughout her life as a church organist/ pianist in several churches around Charlotte. She was a devoted wife to Jimmy, mother of Kevin, volunteer for many in need, and a friend to everyone she met along the way in life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James (Jimmy) Byrne, and her two brothers, Howard and Bill Legrand. She is survived by her family of only-son, Kevin Byrne, his wife, Wendy and their children Lauren, Cameron, and Lindsay Byrne of Monroe. She is also survived by sister-in-law’s, Anne Legrand and Maryann Legrand of Charlotte. Lastly she is also survived by some longtime friends who were like family to her; the Bennett family and the Crawford family. Special thanks to Hospice of Charlotte.

A visitation with the family will be held from 1-2pm on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at McEwen Funeral Service- Mint Hill Chapel in Mint Hill. A funeral service will be held at right after the visitation at 2pm in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jim Banks officiating.

Burial will immediately follow the service in Sunset Memory Gardens in Mint Hill.
