Christine Baber Martin

Christine Baber Martin died peacefully at home on Friday, February 26, 2016 after a long battle with cancer. Born on February 21, 1930 to Howard and Blanche Williamson Baber in Winchester, Kentucky, she was one of eight children. She was married for sixty years to Donald L. Martin of Wilmington, Delaware.

Faithful wife, mother, daughter and sister, she spent most of her adult life in Wilmington, DE until she and her husband retired to North Fort Myers, Florida. They attended Bayshore Community Chapel in North Fort Myers. For the past twenty months, she has lived in Charlotte, NC where she attended Hickory Grove Baptist Church and was a member of the Love Sunday School Class and God’s Cut Ups.

She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her faithful witness, and her love and devotion to her family and Lord Jesus Christ.

She is survived by her daughter Donna M. Fugarino and son-in-law Joe of Charlotte, NC; her son Steven W. Martin and daughter-in-law Kathy of Wilmington, DE; sisters Ailene Abner of Clark County, KY, and Carlene Bias of Winchester, KY; brothers Alfred H. Baber of Arkansas, and Harold D. Baber of California; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Baber and James Baber, as well as a sister, Pauline B. Lawrence.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Boris Krivitsky and his staff at CMC Palliative Care, and Charlotte Regional Hospice, especially Katie and Nikole, for their care and comfort over these last several weeks.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 1 at 10:00 am in the worship center at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 6050 Hickory Grove Road, Charlotte, NC 28215. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am with the Reverend John Harrill officiating.
