Cordie Myrtle Smith Murchison

Born January 6, 1917 in Liberty, North Carolina, Mrs. Murchison was a daughter of the late David Ernest Smith and Willie Lee Rankin Smith. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing Canasta with her dear friends. She was also a well-known seamstress in the Charlotte area.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Murchison was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Byrd Murchison, to whom she married February 16, 1935, a son, Jerry Lee Murchison, a great-grandson, Vincent McKenzie, a brother, Hoyt Smith, and a sister, Edith Stout.

She is survived by three children, Roy Braxton Murchison of Conyers, Georgia, Charles Terry Murchison of Gastonia, North Carolina, and Patsy Ann Murchison Young of Charlotte, North Carolina; and one sister, Maxine Mills of Liberty, North Carolina. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren to cherish her memory.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 2:00 until 3:30 pm Sunday, April 27, 2014, at United Wesleyan Church, 2601 Rocky River Road in Charlotte, with a funeral service to immediately follow at 3:30 pm. Pastor Jeff Haynes will officiate. The family will gather for a private entombment on Monday at Charlotte Memorial Gardens.

The family is grateful to all the dedicated caregivers, including her daughter, Patsy Young, granddaughter, Darlene Seaman, great-granddaughter, Jessica Johnson, family friends, Tara Thomas and Lillie St. John, and the compassionate doctors and nurses at Novant Health Hospice and Palliative Care, for the loving care provided Mrs. Murchison.
