David Frederick Tyndell, age 71, of Mint Hill, NC went to his heavenly home on January 28, 2018. He graduated from Garinger High School in Charlotte and attended UNC-Charlotte. Dave also served his country in the U.S. Army from 1969-1971 in nuclear weapons.
Dave was retired and had been employed as an Electrical Engineer with Guardimation Inc. of Davidson, NC, Sangamo-Weston Inc. of Atlanta, GA., and Schlumberger Industries Inc. of West Union, SC. He had also been self-employed for many years as a partner with Overton Associates of Seneca, SC. With his entrepreneurial spirit, he also owned businesses in Raleigh, NC, Lake Worth, FL, and Charlotte, NC.
He was an avid ham radio operator his whole life, learning Morse Code and building his own radio at the age of 12. Wherever he lived, he was always a member of the local amateur radio club and never lost his enthusiasm for inventing and building a newer and better antenna. He was a member of Oconee ARP Church in Seneca, SC for twenty years, and served as the Church Treasurer and Deacon. Dave currently attended The Refinery Church in Mint Hill.
Wanderlust definitely flowed through his veins. His travels took him to nearly all of the United States, as well as Canada, France, Italy, Barbados, Belize, Venezuela, ABC Islands, West Africa, East Africa, French Polynesia, New Zealand, Croatia, Greece, Israel, Egypt, the Suez Canal, Jordan, Oman, and the U.A.E. He absolutely loved scuba diving in his younger days.
Dave was predeceased by his father, Stanley Giles Tyndell of Clarksville, TX, and his mother Joan Smith Tyndell of New Zealand. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 44 years, Judy Baucom Tyndell, whom he married on May 12, 1973 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte. His surviving children are Brandon Kyle Tyndell (Caroline Baxley) of Bermuda Run, NC; Brooke Tyndell Ahrens (Jeff Ahrens) of Mint Hill, NC; grandchildren Tyndell Eve Ahrens and Silas James Ahrens; brother Paul D. Tyndell (Anthe Tyndell) of Supply, NC and brother-in-law Jerry L. Baucom of Sherrills Ford, NC.
