

A memorial service will be held at Blair Road United Methodist Church, 9135 Blair Road in Mint Hill, on Saturday, June 9 at 2:00 pm followed by visitation with family and friends at the church.
Don was born and raised in Andover, South Dakota, son of William Brice Poe and Alma Awe Poe. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and met his future bride, Patsy Ruth Bell of Carrizo Springs, Texas, while he was stationed in Eagle Pass, Texas. After marrying, Don and Patsy eventually moved to Pierre, South Dakota where Don worked as a printer for the Capitol Journal, the city newspaper. The family later moved to Springfield, Virginia where Don worked the remainder of his career as a printer/proofreader for the U.S. Government Printing Office,
producing government publications and the Congressional Record. While in Northern Virginia, Don and Patsy began ballroom dancing and were founding members of the Regal Dinner and Dance Club. Don and Patsy's involvement in ballroom dancing provided many wonderful memories for them. They used their talent to perform at community gatherings and nursing homes in the area.
Don is survived by his beloved wife, Patsy of Mint Hill, NC, son, Dr. Donald B. (Susan) Poe, Jr. of Mint Hill, NC, and daughter, Starlene (Terry) Arps of Corpus Christi, Texas. He will be missed by grandchildren, Christopher (Blanqui) Poe, Kathleen Poe, Lisa Shelby, Tindle (Phillip) Arnold, Audra (Frank) Urbanic, Jonathan (Katie) Arps, Allison (David) Monroe, Natalie Arps, and great-grandchildren, Melany Erin Arnold, Frances Sophia Poe, Ava Corrine Urbanic, Casey Paige Urbanic and Asher Owen Arps.
