Fred Cosey Agner

May 14, 1922October 28, 2018

Fred Cosey Agner, 96, of Mint Hill died Sunday, October 28, 2018 at his home.

A native of Modoc, SC, Mr. Agner was born to the late John Agner and Rhoberda Cosey Agner on May 14, 1922. He was a US Army veteran of World War II serving in the 5307th Composite Unit – also known as the Merrill’s Marauders. This unit marched over 1000 miles from India to Burma through jungles and mountains. He received two Bronze Stars for this among many other medals.

Mr. Agner also volunteered for the American Red Cross with his wife for many years. They travelled all over the US volunteering their time. Somehow, he still made time for a close family tie. He loved telling stories about how he “met his wife on a mattress” and riding on the tractor. If you had the privilege of meeting this man, he would likely tell you “you made my day!”

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Agner in 2016 and by a granddaughter, Randal Maria Lewis in 1994.

Mr. Agner truly left a legacy. He is survived by his children: Benjamin James Agner and Marla Louise Agner (fiancé Andy Mickler); by nine grandchildren: Rebecca Louise Ashton (husband Ian James Ashton), Joshua William Agner (wife Monica Agner), Melanie Lewis Gildharry (wife Cherry-Anne Gildharry), Jonathan Michael Lewis (wife Abbie Christine Lewis), Casey Danielle Weymouth (husband Mark Weymouth), Anna Maria Lewis, Haydn Noelle Lewis, Scarlett Whitney Mickler and Christine Louise Mickler and six great-grandchildren: Bailey Margaret Lewis, Harmony Storm Watson, Arabella Skye Watson, Scarlett Rayne Watson, Evelyn Christine Lewis and Stella Marie Lewis. He is also survived by Ruby Houston and Donnie Houston who for the last five years dedicated their lives by making sure that he and Louise were taken care of. Pall bearers for Mr. Agner will be Josh Agner, Ian Ashton, Jon Lewis, Howard Lewis, Andy Mickler and Andreas Quiroz.

The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 1st at Blair Road United Methodist Church. He will be laid to rest by his wife at Sharon Memorial Park following the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital,
