Gary met his true love Rene’ LeClair Griffin in 1971 and married on 7/2/1972. Married 49 years and blessed with two daughters, Michelle G. Marciano (deceased AJ) living in TX, and Meredeth G. Greene
(Michael) living in Matthews, NC. The 3 grandchildren, Gage (13) Kylee (11) and Ryder (11) made his heart smile!
He was preceded in death by his parents; Harold Leonard Griffin and Jacqueline Grimes Griffin, grandparents Leonard Fletcher Griffin and Bessie Hunt Griffin.
He is survived by his sister Diane G Tomberlin (Phil), brother A. Wayne Griffin (Ann), sister Susan G Stevens (Rick), and sister Rhonda G Hall. He also loved his in-law side deeply and left behind
Diane McCauley (Ron), Jeff LeClair (Sabrina) and their beloved children. He enjoyed his special times with the many cousins, beloved uncles and aunts, and nieces and nephews.
His work history began with his grandfather, Leonard, teaching him construction which led to his career path. He began in Charlotte, NC as a self-employed remodeler from 1972-1976. He continued in
Charlotte with Century Home Builders from ‘76-’80, Horizon Home Builders Inc. from ‘80-’82, The Housing Group ‘82-’84, and Sparta Brook Homes from ‘84-’88. He then moved his family to Coral
Springs, FL to work with AST Construction Company out of Miami from ‘88-’92. In 1992 he moved back to Charlotte, NC to work at Don Galloway Homes until 1994. After many years as Vice President at
different construction companies he opened and incorporated Griffin Homes Co., Inc. in 1995 to present day. He expanded Griffin Homes along with John Baker to add a remodeling division named Southern
Porch & Patio.
Gary was a committed hard worker, a fair man full of compassion and a humorous quick-witted prankster. His youth was full of pranks being pulled on his teachers and teenage years were exciting as a bull
riding, rodeo cowboy.
Gary’s additional family were his many friends, as he had a knack for making everyone feel special. He loved bright colors, wearing shorts (even in the coldest of weather) bird watching, horses, the beach,
flowers, springtime, golf, old TV shows, Dewar’s Scotch, travel, and LIFE. Gary’s stories will always be legendary.
He fought his rare lung disease diligently and sadly he passed at home after a brief hospital stay in the house he built, for his growing family in 1982.
Make them laugh in Heaven.
Happy Trails with Love Always.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to a children’s charity of your choice. Some of our favorites are Levine Children’s Miracle Network of Charlotte, Greg Olsen’s HEARTest
