

Howard Dennis Main, 75, passed away on October 4th 2021 in his Mint Hill NC home. He was born on February 17, 1946 of the late Howard & Vera Main of New Castle, PA. He has two surviving sisters Janet Lomicka of Greenville, SC and Linda Main of Hartsville, TN.
He is also survived by his wife of 52 years, Birdie Main, two beloved children Hollie Belt (Jon) and Lance Main (Brandi), and four grandchildren Layla Laughinghouse, Auston & Isabella Main, and Brayden Belt.
For over 20 years he worked in jewelry management as a regional supervisor for jewelry chains in both North & South Carolina. Later he retired from TIAA-Cref as a financial advisor and recently was employed part time at Edward Jones in Mint Hill, NC.
Dennis spent most of life studying & teaching the Japanese Martial Art of Aikido. With over 50 years of practice, he advanced to the rank of Rokudan (6th Degree Black Belt) as recognized by the United States Aikido Federation & the Aikikai World Headquarters (Hombu Dojo, Tokyo, Japan) joining a small group of aikido teachers in the world to reach that level. In August, 2021, he was notified that the 2022 New Year's promotions from Hombu Dojo, Tokyo, Japan would include his appointment to Shihan (Master Instructor), another milestone shared by very few. To his students, he was known as "Sensei" & was an extremely gifted aikido teacher. He was extremely well liked & respected in the Aikido Community for his powerful wrist lock techniques & his kindness. He truly loved all aspects of Aikido & shared that passion with many students over his lifetime.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
