OBITUARY
James "Jim" Edward DuPont
January 18, 1937 – February 11, 2021
James “Jim” Edward DuPont, 84, loving husband, dad, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed peacefully at Levine Dickson Hospice House to join our Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 11, 2021.
Jim was born January 18, 1937 in Kinderhook, New York to the late Henry DuPont & Elena Decker DuPont. Jim grew up in Hudson, New York. At Hudson Highschool, Jim played baseball. After completing high school, following his older brother Colonel Bob Dupont’s footsteps, he joined the Army and served his country honorably. Jim was a dedicated employee of IBM. His career started in New York and then he transferred to the Charlotte Office where he later retired after 30 years of service.
He had a passion for baseball (especially the Atlanta Braves), people, and tasty food. Jim rarely missed watching a Braves game and has an incredible baseball card collection. Jim loved people and rarely met a stranger. He always was quick with a smile, lots of laughs, and a good story or two. And Jim loved to eat…you always knew he loved the food when he said, “That was tasty!”.
Jim loved the Lord and was a member and baptized at Arlington Baptist Church. He loved his church, singing hymns, and especially his Sunday School class…which meant more to him than words can express.
He so loved his family and is survived by his wife, Sarah Dupont; children Kim Ritchie and husband Tad, and Jim J. DuPont; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Finn; step children, Melanie Swan and husband Andrew and Stephen Pigg and two step grandchildren.
Jim is preceded in death by his late brother, Robert DuPont. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to: Arlington Baptist Church, 9801 Arlington Church Rd, Charlotte, NC 28227
Due to COVID-19 concerns, the family will have a private graveside service on Monday, February 22, 2021 and a Celebration of Life Service at a later date.

In remembrance of Jim,
Through the years:
We have had good times and not so good times.
We have eaten tasty meals as well as not so tasty meals.
We have cheered our favorite teams during their ups and downs.
We have laughed and we have cried, but above all, we have been together, as a family.
We miss you and we will see you later.
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may also be.” John 14:1-3
To Mom,
We know you miss Jim and one day you will see him again.
He can see you down here and he knows not to worry,
because you will be by his side when your day turns to night.
Until then, in the midst of change and an outflow of tears, words and heartache, you may find yourself in the darkness. Know Jesus is calling your name.
“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” Psalm 23:4
May you find comfort in a God who does not change.
With Truth, Love and Grace,
Andrew & Melanie

I am so sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. I have had the pleasure of knowing Jim and Sarah for many years. Jim and Sarah were always helping members of their Church Family, friends, neighbors.... whomever needed them. Jim always greeted you with a huge smile ! His love for Sarah was so very sincere. He really enjoyed his baseball too!

Pop Pop,
I’m so grateful I was able to see you for Thanksgiving. Especially the fact that Dad and I turned back around after leaving to go take a picture with you and Sarah.
There are so many great memories of you that I have. Will never forget all our talks about sports. Charlotte Hornets, the Carolina Panthers and the Baseball greats.
You had such a great sense of humor. Some of the jokes and phrases you said I still remember to this day. It was only those things you said that made you so special, it was the love you showed for your family and everyone around you.
I’m going to miss you very much. I’ll be sure to still visit Grandma (Sarah) to cherish the memories that we had with you and take care of her.
I love you Pop, until we meet gain.
Love,
Craig

I moved onto Errington Lane Christmas 2019. Jim and Sarah made an effort to welcome us with Christmas cookies and introduce themselves. I would periodically see them,, often giving gardening advice. We weren't close, but they were always kind and caring, and always brought Christmas cookies each year, even during Covid. Jim will be missed. My heart goes out to Sarah. If Sarah needs help, we're at 9421 Errington Lane. God bless!

Thank you for loving me like your own granddaughter! You were there for all of the birthday parties and school events. And of course you were there for all of the big events like graduation, my wedding, and the birth of Ava. <3
I always looked forward to when Mitchell and I would come over to see you and Grandma. We always had so much fun!
I will miss your smile, jokes, and positive outlook on life. And especially when you said, "That was tasty," after a good meal.
I love you and miss you! But I know you are in heaven smiling down on us. I will always consider you as my grandfather.

To my loving father-in-law, Jim and precious Sarah,
Jim, at the time when most are saying goodbye, I would like to say thank you for one of the most beautiful people in the world, your daughter, my wife.
I know where she gets her contagious smile, her beautiful eyes and her heart of gold; from her Daddy.
I can never thank you enough for the love I receive everyday of my life, from my wife.
So thank you again, for your love lives on in your daughter everyday.
You will be greatly missed, but now you are in heaven where you will live eternally with Jesus as he promised us.
To my loving Sarah,
I also owe you many thanks for opening my eyes and sharing the love of Jesus with me. I am forever grateful. You have forever changed my life in the most beautiful way.

It is so sad to lose a neighbor, especially when the neighbor is Jim. He always brought a smile to your face and cared for those around him. I want his wife, Sarah, to know that she has many neighbors that are here for her if she needs anything! Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family,

The day you went to be with GOD has to been one of the worst days of my life. I feel like I lost a piece of me. To say "were" is a diminishment to you... You are the best grandfather ever. You were there for every dance recital, every birthday, and every milestone in my life whether we were near or apart. I will miss the days that I called your house and you would hear my voice saying "Hi Pumpkin" or "Hey Linds". I will miss the days of you asking to speak to Jason about current sports stats. I'll miss the days you asked to speak to your three beautiful great-grandchildren. I love how you were the braggiest Grandpa ever-it didn't matter who it was or who you knew you always put us up on a pedestal. I will forever cherish our memories that Carowinds, Urban air, and cooking my famous Easter dinner for you all. I love you, Pop-Pop. Love, Pumpkin

I remember Uncle Jim loved his cats. To this day he would always ask me about my animals and especially my horses. I remember years ago when he visited us in Ohio and he wanted me to take him to the barn so he could meet my horse. Rest in peace Uncle Jim.

To my dearest Dad & Sarah,
Dad,
My heart feels broken in two from losing you.
You were the best father, grandfather and great grandfather anyone could ask for.
Thank you for always being there for me when I needed guidance, encouragement or a shoulder to cry on.
I wouldn’t be the person I am today without all the love and support you gave me my entire life.
I feel truly blessed to have had you for a Dad.
Rest In Peace Daddy. Until we see each other again.
Love, Kim
Sarah,
You’ve been such an important part of my life and I love you so much.
Thank you for being such a wonderful wife to my Dad and for the endless love and care you gave him.
My Dad’s passing doesn’t end our relationship, it only makes it stronger.
I will always be here for you and we will get through the loss of Dad together.
