James Monroe (“Jim”) Frink passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, after a brief but valiant battle with COVID-19. Jim, known as “Jamie” to family, was born in Charlotte, NC on May 12, 1942. He was the son of William Bunn Frink, Sr. and Margaret (“Madge”) Cooper Frink. Jim graduated from the University of North Carolina – Charlotte, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Following graduation, Jim pursued a career as a mechanical engineer specializing in jet engines and turbines. He worked for GE Aviation, Pratt and Whitney, and Grumman Aircraft. While employed with Grumman in Bethpage, Long Island, NY, Jim worked on the development of the F-14 Fighter Jet. He returned to his hometown of Matthews, NC in the 1990s to care for his mother in the family home. Jim is survived by his brother, William “Bunn” Frink, Jr., of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, William Bunn (“Bill”) Frink, III. The family would like to express their profound gratitude for the love and care shown to Jamie by his friends and family in the Matthews Community and First Baptist Church Matthews, particularly Buz Boothe and family, Jim and Anita Webb and family, Jerry and Becky Ratliff, and Pastor Ron Gregory.

I didn't know him for very long. But the time I did spend with him was a good learning experience. I enjoyed the time we shared together and he taught me a lot. On top of that we became good friends. I cared for him deeply and he will be missed greatly.
