He was born on November 6, 1937 in Trenton, NJ to the late Edward and Marion Crosby.
Jim graduated from Pennsbury High School in 1957 where he was inducted into the Pennsbury Hall of Fame for football, basketball and baseball.
Jim then went to Western Carolina University on a football scholarship and graduated in 1963. He contributed on offense and defense for Western Carolina, having his best year in 1959. All his teammates called him "father" for always trying to keep them straight.
Jim is a retired NC school teacher and he coached football, wrestling and Cross Country track.
Special achievements include coaching the Independence Track Team where they won:
State Champs and seventh best in the US in 1976
220 dash (the twelfth best in the US in 1976)
Triple jump (fifth best in the International Meet in Chicago in 1977)
Indoor track records include the 60 dash (third in State in 1976)
440 dash State Champs in 1976
Triple jump third in State in 1976.
Jim was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Mint Hill, North Carolina.
He is survived by wife, Helen Pye Lovett of Mint Hill, North Carolina; three sisters, Delores Randell, Carolyn Stanley and Jody Johnson all residing in Doylestown, Pennsylvania; three step-sons, William Oltmann IV, Gregg Oltmann and Travis Oltmann all residing in Charleston, South Carolina.
Jim enjoyed life, was so much fun to be around, loved his WCU football and Yellowstone National Park. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him, especially by his adoring wife.
